The gap MCB protection cannot fill
An MCB responds to current that is too high for too long, or to a short between live conductors. It does not reliably detect a few tens of milliamps leaking from a live conductor through a person to earth. That leakage can occur with damaged insulation, a faulty appliance, water intrusion, or DIY alterations that leave exposed metal live.
A residual current circuit breaker (RCCB), also called an RCD or differential switch in many markets, compares current leaving the live conductor with current returning on neutral. If the difference exceeds the residual rating (commonly 30 mA for personal protection), it disconnects the circuit in milliseconds. That is the lifesaving function building codes and good practice worldwide insist on for socket outlets and wet areas.

Stabbing a higher residual rating “so it stops tripping” without fixing wiring is unsafe. Test buttons exist for a reason — press them periodically and replace sticky devices.
Pair RCCBs with correctly rated MCBs upstream or combined devices as advised. Never omit earthing; residual devices assume there is a path difference to detect. Poor earthing practices undermine the entire safety design.
